At the site of wound the platelets produce an enzyme known as THROMBOKINASE which is also known as X FACTOR .Then the thrombokinase acts with the calcium ion present in the plasma and reacts with PROTHROMBIN (inactive) to convert it into THROMBIN (active). Then the THROMBIN acts with calcium ion to act on a soluble protein FIBRINOGEN to make it insoluble FIBRIN.This FIBRIN is a sticky thread like structure that traps the RBCs and squeeze it in leaving behind a clear liquid called serum .And a clot is formed at the place.
