Amphoteric oxides refers to substances that react with both an acid and base to produce a salt and water. A good example of an amphoteric oxide is Al₂O₃ and ZnO. Zinc Oxide reacts with HCl to produce zinc chloride and water. On the other hand, Aluminum oxide reacts with HCl to form Aluminum chloride and water.
