WHEN THREE RESISTORS ARE PLACED IN SERIES AND PARALLEL WHAT IS THE EQUIVALENT RESISTANCE. ALSO WHAT WILL BE THE RESISTANCE IF THE RESISTANCES ARE EQUAL?

If resistors are in parallel,

the equivalent resistance,

  • 1/ Req = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3
  • = 1/R + 1/R + 1/R ( for equal resistance )
  • = 3/R
  • Req = R/3

If resistors are in series,

the equivalent resistance,

  • Req = R1 + R2 + R3
  • = R + R + R ( for equal resistance )
  • Req= 3R
