Let the speed of first car be x and that of second car be y m/s

When the cars move towards each other , then

Average speed = x - y = 20

》x = y +20 ---------------------------1

When the car move away from each other, then

Average speed = x+y = 60

from equation 1

y + 20 + y = 60

》2y + 20 = 60

》2y = 40

》y = 40÷2

》y = 20 m/s

from equation first

x = y + 20

》x = 20 + 20

》x = 40m/s
