The general formula for resistance in parallel is

1/Rt = (1/R1) + (1/R2) +....

In this case since there are only two resistance

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2

Take a common denominator (R1*R2)

1/Rt = R2/(R1*R2) + R1/(R1*R2)

Since they have a common denominator you can add them

1/Rt = (R2 + R1)/(R1*R2)

Invert it

Rt = R1*R2/(R1 +R2)
