If we take 40 as resistance in parallel then we are getting the answer.

R1 = 120 and R 2 = 60

R1 +R2 = 120 + 60 = 180

R1 x R2 / R1+ R2 = 120 x 60/ 120 + 60 = 7200 / 180 = 40 ohms
