The Bastille Prison was stormed on 14th of July, 1789.

The Bastille was a prison-fortress used by the King of France (Louis 16). The main reason for this attack was that the common people wanted to reach out and take away the ammunition (weapons) that were believed to have been stored there. The commander of the prison was killed and seven prisoners were released. The Bastille represented the despotic power of the king and was the focus of much resentment. The prison was completely destroyed after this attack.
