The Interim Government was the first government of India was formed of 2nd Septemeber 1946 when the British government decided to quit India after the 2nd world war. The Interim Government was created as a provisional government from the Constituent Assembly of India. It was established with a purpose to help in the transition of India and [Pakistan from the British rule to independence as two separate countries. The Interim government had 69 percent of seats allocated to INC where the party had a majority in 8 out of 11 India provinces. The government was in place till 14th August 1947 when the India and Pakistan received independence from the colonial rule. The British government during this period released several freedom fighters and political prisoners from the Indian National Congress (INC) and the All-India Muslim League.
