The constituent assembly first met on 9 december 1946...
Then our constitution was adopted in 26 November 1949.... and it came into force in 26 January 1950...

The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th November 1949. It was enforced on 26th January 1950 in order to commemorate the 26th January 1930 which was celebrated as the first Independence Day by the Congress. The same day i.e 26th January is now being celebrated as the Republic Day of India.
It took Constituent Assembly Two years, Eleven months and Eighteen days to complete the Constitution on 26th November 1949 and later it came into effect on 26th January 1950
