The proton was first observed in 1886 as H+ by Eugen Goldstein. He discovered existence of positively charged rays in the discharge tubes by using perforated cathode.
It was further been identified in the form of other nuclei and then it was named Proton by Ernest Rutherford in year 1917-1920.
