The Battle of Plassey was fought in the year 1757.
The English East India Company was attracted towards Bengal due to its great prospects of profitable trade it offered and the fertile land.
• In the year 1717, Emperor Farrukhsiyar issued a Firman. He confirmed the trading privileges to the English East India Company.
• They were allowed to export as well as export British goods in Bengal without paying any kind of taxes.
• The Britishers later misused the the Firman rights. They issued the dastaks which exempted the company's goods from tax.
• This resulted to a war between Nawab of Bengal and the Company.
• When Siraj Ud Daulah was administrating the state, he ordered the French and English to smash or demolish their fortification at Calcutta.
• French obeyed his orders where as English refused to do so.
• After Siraj Ud Daulah's accession to the throne, he repeated his orders but they refused again, which made Siraj-ud-daulah angry.
• He attacked the English Factory at Cassimbazar.
• The English Officials took protection at Fulta.
• After knowing about the capture of Calcutta, Robert Clive and Admiral Watson along with their army, marched towards Calcutta.
• They conspired with Mir Jafar the Commander in Chief of Suraj Ud Daulah.
• The battle resulted to the defeat of Siraj-ud-daulah, and the Company won the battle.
The company made Mir Jafar as the new Nawab of Bengal which was only a puppet in the hands of English.
