The official languages Act came into force in the year 1963. On 10th of May, 1963 the Parliament enacted it as an act, so that smooth functioning of the Parliament, central and state government offices and the high court’s use it for certain purposes and mostly for universal understanding of the language throughout the country.

The act was later amended in the year 1967.
