The permanent settlement was introduce in India in first Bengal and Bihar, and then in Madras and Varanasi. The system eventually spread all over India by a seeries of regulations dated 1 May 1793.
Some main features of permanent settlement are as follows:
1. According to this act, the 'taluqdars' were now called 'zamindars' and they collecte money from the peasants and paid the company.
2. This motivated the zamindars to increase their agricultural production as well pay the reveneue to the company.
3. The reveneue payed to the company was fixed and permanent. This motivated zamindares to expand their agricultural production.
