On 31 st December 1941, E W Perry, the then Prime Minister of Kolhapur announced through a press note published by the Political Dept at New Delhi that Maharani Tarabai Sahib has selected to adopt Pratapsinh Nanasaheb Chaurekar, who is from the Chaurekar collateral branch related to Sharafji, uncle of Shivaji Maharaj as the heir to the Kolhapur throne
