Due to the sun's heat the water on earth's surface evaporates and starts going into the atmosphere. There it forms clouds. When the clouds start going higher into the atmosphere the temperature goes on decreasing. Due to low temperature condesation of water particles in form of vapour into liquid occurs. The clouds cannot contain the heavy water and these droplets fall on the ground. That is what we call rain.

ainyrizvi: but when water goes upward so there will be more heat
Renuka5678: yes there is heat.. but the clouds reach a very high height.. as we go higher n higher up in the atmosphere the temperature there cools.. observe the clouds that u see daily n try to estimate its height!! they look like they r not tht high but they are many kms away from us
ainyrizvi: its why
Renuka5678: In the troposphere, the temperature generally decreases with altitude. The reason is that the troposphere's gases absorb very little of the incoming solar radiation. Instead, the ground absorbs this radiation and then heats the tropospheric air by conduction and convection. That is why the temperature decreases with increasing altitude
ainyrizvi: thanks
ainyrizvi: i was in a big confusion
