We know that there are two kinds of propagation of an wave namely, longitudinal propagation and transverse propagation. Now to judge that which propagation is being followed by an wave, at first we have to know about the medium. If it is any fluid such liquid or gas then the wave follows a transverse propagation or the means of crest and trough. An it is any solid substance then the wave follows the method of longitudinal propagation or by the means of a linear path.
