Life processes simply means the processes which go on throughout the life. After eating food, our body needs to digest it. So, it does that after sleeping. For getting energy for digestion, respiration is important. For filtration of excretory products, excretion is important. In this way, many other life processes are required. If they stop, we will die.

"When we are asleep we are not performing any activity still our life processes are going on because life process involves many different processes like digestion, respiration, excretion etc.
These processes need energy and involve extensive working of living cells. Therefore, when we are asleep, the body get a chance to recover the damaged "cells and tissues" of the body.
The maintenance of living cells helps to develop the body so that all the life processes can work properly otherwise extensive work and no maintenance can damage our body."
