hey mate
here is your answer
when we chop onions, an essence is released by the cells of onion that cause irritation in our eyes so to remove that essence tears are released that causes cry.
but when we chew a chewing gum it's present in our mouth and it's essence can't enter our eyes so we don't cry.
hope it helps you.
