when we do electroplating only the copper plate which is kept to the negative terminal is only coated why not the positive terminal

cause in any cell or circuit current flows from postive to negative terminal. same thing happens with ions when circuit is completed. so the ions which separate out from the anode travel to cathode and coat it. anode decreases in size ultimately or gets thinner but cathode grows in size.
