When we exposed half of a nail outside on a sunny day, then we cover the other half with cartoon the covered half still gets heated. Why is this so?

Hi.. here is your answer..

This is because metal is a relatively good conductor of heat. Hence why pans and ovenware is often made of metal. The reason for this is when an object is heated, the atoms and molecules that make up its structure become “excited” and begin to vibrate. These vibrations cause the atoms next to each other to vibrate as well which is why the covered part of the nail still feels warm. Of course there will be some heat transfer from the card as well but this is negligible compar d to the conducted heat through the metal nail. Temperature can be considered as a measure of how much the atoms in a certain material/substance are vibrating at any given time. If the nail was heated to extremes, the atoms would vibrate enough to overcome the boring between them and the solid nail would become liquid metal and if heated further still would become gaseous.

Answer:

Nails are ususally made of metals. In metals when one part of it is heated, the heat is transfered to the entire metal. The reason for the transfer of heat is due to excitation of atoms. When some atoms are heated they get excited and transfer the energy to the neighbouring atoms, hence transfering the heat to the entire nail.
