Explanation:
- Metallic character in a group increases because number orbits (shell) number increases.
- due to Shell number increases and hence atomic radius also increases.
- so proton force is not able to hold the electrons of the last orbit and hence it is easy for the electron of the last orbit to go out of the shell... which make it a good metallic in nature.
- And hence metals donate electrons and make positive sign as +1,+2,+3...
