When we pressed the sponge ball its changes its shape then also its considered as solid .Why ?

When we pressed the sponge ball its changes its shape then also its considered as solid because the sponge ball has pores in it which helps the sponge in filling itself with air but when we press it the air escapes and sponge changes its shape but after 2 to 3 minutes the sponge again comes back to its original or initial shape thus considered as solid
