When we released our breath after holding it for some time we had to breathe heavily.can you tell me,why?

It happens because the level of carbon dioxide starts building up in our blood while we hold our breath. And when we actually start breathing, the demand for oxygen increases in our body due to which we breathe heavily. It later becomes normal.
