when we sprinkle iron fillings near a bar magnet to get the magnetic field line then the iron fillings arrange themselves as closed curves representing magnetic field lines.

MY QUESTION IS THAT,WHY NOT THE IRON FILLINGS GET STUCK ON THE MAGNET?

actually whenever we do that experiment we usually keep the bar magnet under the paper and on the paper we sprinkle the iron fillings...
and hence they don't stick on the magnet ...
