its velocity decreases and at a point becomes zero (retardation). then it comes back to earth under free flow with acceleration g . obviously due to earths gravity that regularly pulls it down towards surface

Hey mate
when we throw a ball upwards it's speed will keep on reducing and after sometime it will be zero..
This is because gravitational force of earth acting as deacceleration for the ball speed....it it attracting ball towards itself..
