When we try to push a heavy book kept on the surface, it does not move at all. Which force is preventing on this book to move forward? Where does this force does?

Answer:

The reason is that the force of friction is more in the book's surface.It will be easy to push,if it is in a smooth surface. So, it is hard to push a book in a rough surface.
