That depends on whether the compounds/elements can react with each other or not. if they do not react then on mixing them they'll remain as they are, if they do react then you'll get a new substance.
also it depends on the conditions under which u r mixing them.
eg. if u mix nitrogen and oxygen under room temp, they don't react. however at a specific temperature and pressure conditions they combine to form nitrous oxide, nitrogen dioxide etc.
