Answer:

The correct path that an apple would take through your digestive system is mouth, stomach, small intestine, colon.

Explanation:

Digestive system consists of a group of organs which help in digestion of food.

It consists of alimentary canal and digestive glands.

Alimentary canal

It is a tube extended from mouth to anus about 10 metre in length.

It forms organs like mouth, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine and large intestine(colon).

Some organs of alimentary canal are briefly described below:

a. Mouth

  • When a solid food such as apple is placed into mouth, it is chewed into smaller pieces by the help of teeth and tongue.
  • Food is mixed with saliva making it smooth and an enzyme called ptyalin digests carbohydrates present in the food.
  • The enzyme changes starch into maltose.
  • The food then passes through oesophagus to reach into stomach.

b. Stomach

  • Food is mixed with digestive juices in stomach i.e HCl and enzymes.
  • HCl kills harmful germs and makes food acidic.
  • Enzymes like pepsin and renin present in gastric juice breaks the protein into peptones and milk into casein to digest food respectively.

c. Small intestine

  • It produces intestinal juice containing enzymes like erepsin, sucrase, lactase and maltase.
  • Erepsin digest peptides into amino acids, sucrase digests sucrose into glucose, maltase changes maltose into glucose and lactase changes lactose into glucose.
  • Thus food is completely diagested.
  • Nutrients are absorbed by villi and mixes with blood.
  • Remaining undigested products are passed into large intestine(colon).

d. Colon

  • Food when comes to colon, it absorbs some water and remaining materials are pushed to rectum which finally is passed out through anus.
