The first thing has to be the literacy rate and an incident that I remember related to what. I have been to rural areas in different parts of India but the one incident I remember is from Kerala. I was lost (we were on a small canoe) in the backwaters. Saw some kids waiving to us from a shore. We stopped by to take some pictures and ask the way. All the kids with big smiles asked us if we have pens that we can give to them. I was sad I didnt have any. I came back the next day to distribute 50 pens across the village. I saw bigger smiles on pens over chocolate bars
