When you listen to the sound produced by a tuning fork and the sound of the same frequency produced by a sitar, you find that tunning fork sounds flat whereas the sitar soundsshrill. Why?

Various factors such as compostion of material, its tensile strength and its  Resistance plays an important role in the influence of the sound which we hear.  

Moreover, Tuning fork is an object, which is entirely solid used for experiment purpose, where as Sitar is a musical instrument, chiselled to perfection and the strings are tied in proper tension to produce a soothing resonance.  

The pitch entirely depends on the material and its composition and the above listed factors plays an important role in altering the Pitch and Tone.
