I think it means that when you plant a tree, and everyday you go to check on it to see whether it's ok, you feel happy with yourself and with the fact that you are letting a tree grow when so many other trees are being cut down. You feel happy and proud of yourself for helping to make the world/ environment a better place by just planting this one tree when no one else is bothering to do the same...
