whenever metal reacts with acid it gives out salt and hydrogen ,my teacher told me that nitric acid is an exception.why?

U see nitric acid is a strong oxidising agent. When it reacts with a metal it produces salt and water
Only magnesium and manganese react with nitric acid to give hydrogen.
