The Constitution of India cannot be changed but it can be amended. For example, the most important amendments made to date are:
- Reduction of voting age from 21 to 18 (1989) - Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi believed that the youth is fully and correctly informed as well as capable to take this decision hence, the voting age was lowered.
- Reservation for OBCs, SCs, and STs (2014) - In order to ensure the nation's integrity and unity reservations were made for these economically and socially challenged classes.
- Introduction of GST(2016) - Multiple taxes were abolished and now consumers have to pay only GST which includes both the central and state government taxes. In this way, the state government can not increase taxes unnecessarily.
