When magnesium reacts with oxygen following reaction take place
Mg + O2 = MgO
Here magnesium is being oxidised coz in reactants side it's remain in free state but in product side it forms MgO

Answer: Magnesium is oxidized in this reaction.

Explanation:

Oxidation is defined as addition of oxygen atom.

Rdeuction is defined as removal of oxygen atom.

When magnesium ribbon is burnt in air that is combustion reaction of the magnesium metal. On burning in presence of oxygen magnesium gives white color magnesium oxide. Here, magnesium metal is getting oxidized into magnesium ion.

Mg(s)+O_2(g)\rightarrow MgO(s)
