The chromosomes are located in the nucleus of a cell. Lying in the nucleoplasm of nucleus, constricted within nuclear membrane (eukaryotes).

They are composed of mainly two components.

DNA

Contains parallel chains, made up of nucleotides, in a helical shape.

Histone proteins (DNA is packed with them. DNA being negatively charged gets bound with proteins.)

Chromosomes contains genes. Now gene is no other than DNA but it's the functional segment of DNA which codes for proteins. And all the information about body structure(morphology) and functions (anatomy) is provided by genes. These are the hereditary units.

Transfer of information is their hereditary function. It can be easily understood e.g.,

Like a person is going on scooty to Hauz Khas. Now, scooty is chromosome and the person sitting on it is gene. Person wanted to reach there but both scooty and that person moved together.

So, chromosomes carries (carrier:scooty) the information
