Series circuit is used when we want same current but different voltage .

Examples:

1) Lighting in your house: the light switch is in series with any amount of parallel lamps you want to turn on and off at the same time.

2) When, within a circuit, you have a power indicator LED, you will put it in series with a resistor to make sure the current through the LED is correct.

Series circuit use when in whole circuit we want same current.

series arrangement is not used in domestic /household circuits because

◾◾ There is voltage division in series circuits. Each component of a series circuit receives a small voltage for a large supply voltage. As a result, the amount of current decreases and the device becomes hot.

Disadvantages of Series Circuits

◾if one component in a series circuit fails due to any reason, then all the components in the circuit fail because the circuit has been broken.

◾the more components there are in a series circuit, the greater the circuit's resistance

◾ Current is constant in series combination, so it is impractical to connect a bulb and an electric heater in series.
