The waste collected from our homes are sent to a land reserved for dumping waste called as landfill.

There are many ways by which these wastes are disposed:

  • Landfill – The waste are collected in a landfill area and a layer of soil is added after every layer of garbage. Then the area is used as a playground or a park.
  • Incineration – The wastes are burned and decomposed into ashes. The waste is treated before burning to reduce the releasing of harmful gases.
  • Waste compaction – The plastic and iron wastes are compressed into small blocks and then sent fo recycling. This reduces the size of waste and east for transportation.
  • Biogas generation – wastes are decomposed into organic matter with the action of microbes. These microbes generate gases such a methane and ethane known as biogas.
  • Composting – organic wastes are used as manure in parks and playgrounds.
