Where are the local maxima and minima of the function?

Where the slope of the tangent to the curve becomes zero.
i.e dy/dx = 0

In normal terms, it is where the curve makes a turn. It looks like peaks of a mountain.
y= x^2

dy/dx = 2*x
this is 0 at x = 0.
So x=0 is either a minima of a maxima.
Which one? well for that there is second derivative test. Comment if you wanna know about them.
