Simple, just put a thin hard substance such as cardboard over the magnet. Then spread some iron fillings on it . The fillings will arrange themselves according to the magnetic field lines. NOW, the places with maximum concentration of field lines will be either of the poles. So, take a bar magnet of known poles and place them near the region where the maximum field line concentration had been found.
So, now we have the magnetic poles along with their exact location on the magnet.
