1. In igneous and metamorphic rocks minerals are found in the cracks, crevices, faults and joints. The smaller occurrence is called the veins and the larger occurrence is called loses. It is usually found in molten form. Major metallic minerals like tin, lead, copper, zinc etc., are found in veins and lodes.
2. In sedimentary rocks minerals are found as bass or layers. This have occurred as a result of decomposition and accumulation, concentration in horizontal strata. Coal and some forms of irons ore are found in beds or layers. Another group of sedimentary minerals include gypsum, potash salt, sodium salt etc. This had occurred as a result of evaporation in the arid regions.
3.Another mode of formation involves decomposition of surface rocks, removal of soluble constituents leaving a residual mass of weathered materials containing ores. Bauxite is obtained in this way.
4. Certain minerals may occur as alluvial deposits in the sand of valley floors and the base of hills. These deposits are called the places deposits. These contain minerals that are not easily corroded by water. Gold, silver, tin and platinum are the most important among such minerals.
