Direct Speech : "Where are you going?" said Viola to Rosalind.

Indirect Speech : Viola asked Rosalind where she was going.

  • The reporting verb said is changed to asked .
  • The pattern of the reported clause changes :-

=> Where are you going?

=> Where she was going.

This is done because the reported clause ( which is in interrogative pattern) needs to be changed into assertive pattern in Indirect speech.
