Bismillah Khan played the shehnai on 15 August 1947 at Red Fort. The event was historic as the audience including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi were celebrating the Independence of India from the Britishers. Khan was honoured to greet the independent Indians with his Raag Kafi.
