It was a long way from Varanasi over an hour in the taxi who kept stopping to show us temples on the way, which were fine but not really what we wanted.
When we arrived the museum was shut. The site we had come to see was very unspectacular. There was a plan and some explanation of all the foundations and ruins. The main tower had scaffolding and we were not able to get near to it.
The park nearby was pleasant and the grounds well kept.

After attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya the Buddha went to Sarnath; and it was here that he preached his first discourse in the deer park to set in motion the 'Wheel of the Dharma'. It is one of the most holy sites as in this place the stream of the Buddha's teaching first flowed.
