Bose escaped from under British surveillance from his Elgin Road house in Calcutta on the night of 17 January 1941, accompanied by his nephew Sisir Kumar Bose, later reaching Gomoh Railway Station (now Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Gomoh Station) in the then state of Bihar (now Jharkhand), India.

At 1:30 am on the fateful night January 16, 1941 Bose’s nephew Sisir Kumar Bose drove Netaji out of the house and went straight to Gomoh station in Bihar from where Netaji boarded Kalka Mail on his journey. Bose was in home internned by the British when he escaped.
