Later Emperors lived on the palatine as well as elsewhere in Rome, and enlarged the property and built more splendid residences. The somewhat tyrannical emperor Domitian built the magnificent Flavian Palace on the Palatine. Known as the Palatium, it became the more or less official residence of the Roman Emperors.
