The swallow was flying to Egypt. All of his friends had already flown to Egypt six weeks ago. He was not able to go with them and so he was going there too. At first, he didn't plan to go to Egypt but later decided to go there. He was on his way and when it turned dark, the bird stopped at the statue of the Happy Prince and decided to take shelter there.
