They are giant bees found all over India in sub mountainous regions up to an altitude of 2700 m. They construct single comb in open about 6 feet long and 3 feet deep .They shift the place of the colony often. Rock bees are ferocious and difficult to rear. They produce about 36 Kg honey per comb per year.

Comb of Rock Bees:

As its name suggests, rock bee also known as giant honey bee constructs its comb mostly under cliffs. It nests at an altitude of about 2500 meter. It is one of the world's largest honey bees. Its nests can also be found on high tree limbs and sometimes on buildings too.

When disturbed, they become more vicious and aggressive. Though they cannot be domesticated, still some indigenous people use them as a source for honey hunting.
