Lipids present in the cell membrane are synthesized in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum which does not contain the ribosomes. However, theproteins are produced in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, which is called so because it has the ribosomes attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosomes help in protein synthesis.
