From left because when you are numbering the priority first goes to functional group then substitutes and other things.
Yes the naming is 4 methyl pentanol
But my question is why is it pent since pent means 5 right? Shouldn’t it be 4 methyl- methanol ?

Priority should always be given to functional grp
CH3 is methyl

Start form nearest to OH as it's alcohol and.a functional group so should be prioritized
