Answer:

Convectional rainfall is also called 4 o ‘clock rain: Convectional rainfall is the result of high rate of evaporation. Then condensation takes place and rain falls. At mid-day, when the sun is at the highest position, the temperatures rise at the equator. There are 3 main types of rainfall: relief, frontal and convectional.

Relief rainfall is formed when the air cools as it rises over relief features in the landscape such as hills or mountains. As the air rises, it cools, condenses and forms rain.

Frontal rainfall occurs when a warm front meets a cold front. The heavier cold air sinks to the ground and the warm air rises above it. When the warm air rises, it cools. The cooler air condenses and form clouds.

Convectional rainfall occurs when the energy of the sun heats the surface of the Earth, causing water to evaporate to form water vapour. When the land heats up, it warms the air above it. This causes the air to expand and rise. As the air rises it cools and condenses. (In equatorial regions 4 o clock rainfall occurs – during the day the vertical rays of the sun intensely heat up the land and water as a result water vapour is produced which cools up when comes in upper atmosphere).
